Blitz Festaal Kruezberg Berlin Elyas Khan Prince Tribute

O(+> Prince Rogers Nelson was never one to let anyone wrap him up in a pussycat bow. Pop-star. Rock-god. Funk-master. Preacher. Satyr. Dandy. Workhorse. Gender-bender. Monk. Magician. Philanthropist. Joker. Svengali. Recluse. Showman extraordinaire. He was a man of luminous, full-throated joy, and deep, shattering longing. Of indestructible groove laced with an abyssal ache that he was certain (and he was right) could be made to take flight through the transcendent, propulsive power of music. He played guitar like he was making love and talking in tongues. He sang like an angel and a man possessed. He was reverence and sin. Confusion and commitment. Artifice and naked emotional exposure. He hated being stared at but wanted everyone to look at him. And when we looked, we were as awed as he wanted and needed us to be, and we offered up the love that he asked for and that he made, and for a long time it was enough, it was everything, and at the same time it was not and could never be enough.

O(+> On April 21st, a year exactly since our Purple muse passed, we celebrate his legacy. Bands and artists from all persuasions will gather to pay tribute to a man who changed the face of music forever.

Berlin Velodrome Team GASAG

While Elyas was Rocking LIMBO at the Fringe World Festival in one hemisphere he was composing music for another! This piece of music was to accompany this beautiful promo produced by BLAM Studios Berlin, for an event of one in Elyas’s favorite spots in Berlin: Velodrom Berlin and the 106th Berlin Six-Day Race, Six Day Cycling in support of TEAM GASAG!

Janwaar Castle Skateboard Park India

Very excited to have composed an original score for the Janwaar Castle Skateboard Park India skateboarding community and educational program. The aim is to get these rural kids from a small village in Madhya Pradesh India, attending class regularly through the natural motivator which is skateboarding… No school, no skateboarding.

I remember when I first rode a board: Sheer bliss, MAGIC! As you might imagine, unlike before, class has been FULL!

Great work all around by sponsors by Oxelo Skateboards and BLAM Studio Berlin.

If any of you are interested in the music just message me.

Limbo down under on Australian TV show Today Tonight!

The cast of LIMBO gave an up-close sneak peek of the show to the crew of the Australian TV show Today Tonight!

LIMBO is dirty & dangerous circus-cabaret, whisking audiences worldwide into a sinister netherworld of jaw-dropping contortion, gut-churning aerial acrobatics and staggering illusions.

This record-breaking, award-winning sensation is a celebration of otherworldly proportions, directed by Scott Maidment, and presented in a magnificent 1920s inspired Spiegeltent.

Music is a dominating force of the production. Ringmaster and Band Leader ELYAS KHAN is accompanied by exceptional musicians Mick Stuart and Eamon McNelis as they breathe new life into New York’s own Sxip Shirey‘s compositions of exclusive music for the show with ecstatic melodies, irreverent electric-acoustic noise and playful, sexy beats.

LIMBO’s stunning international cast also features: Coney Island’s sword swallower and vintage beauty, Heather Holliday; French gravity-defying Chinese pole master, beatboxer and clown, Mikael Bres; Australia’s acrobatic dancing sensation Hilton Denis; the exquisite French-Canadian aerialist, Evelyne Allard; the unstoppable hand balancer Danik Abishev; and mind-bending contortionist and acrobat, Tigris.

Between Heaven and Earth, from Berlin to Melbourne and Perth

I’ve been in Limbo, in more ways than one, for the past year and a half. I ran away with the circus you see, stepping into the sparkly shoes of Sxip Shirey, the former band leader and creator of this critically acclaimed show. After sold out daily performances in Australia, I took a well needed break and returned to Europe to celebrate Saint Sylvester, or New Year’s Eve to you and me.

While visiting friends in Sweden, my wife and manager Melissa and I were inspired by the serene, quiet beauty of the snow covered forests outside their studio, Loveballs Labs Vallentuna, and shot the video to accompany mine and Moe Jaksch’s interpretation of Berlin folk band 17 Hippies’ song, Solitaire. The footage was captured on an iPhone 6 (DIY punk spirit at its finest!) and handed it over to Martin Mostert for editing. The track, produced by Pebble Music’s Chris Lastelle, features on the second disc of the 17 Hippies’ new “Best Of” double album, Anatomy & Metamorphosis, to celebrate 20 years of creativity and collaboration.

17 Hippies’ singer Kiki Sauer wrote Solitaire as a memoire of a woman’s tragic tale of loss when her Russian lover is sent away to fight on the front line, never to return. In the video, I play the part of the Russian soldier who, trapped between worlds, tries to reach out to his love, while she searches the forest for him, unaware of his ghostly presence.

Although it’s not the first time I’ve collaborated with the 17 Hippies (Flame Girl) it is the first time I’ve recorded a song in French, which made the endeavour lots of fun, but quite challenging! Other contributors to the album include Stoppok, Les Orgres de Barback and Marc Ribot, among others.
